Celebrating Our Mums
Ahhhh, mums. How good are they?
When we think of a mother, we usually think of the woman who grew us. But we know that life isn’t always that simple, and that mothers can come in many different forms. Here at St Martha, we believe that’s a truly great thing. We no longer expect families to only include a mum, a dad and a handful of well-behaved small people. Today, families are beautiful, colourful and creative beasts – with some incredibly special people stepping in (and up) to the powerful role of ‘mum’.
No matter how our mums became part of our lives – whether they pushed us out, took us in, or arrived in the form of our friends, siblings, grandparents or dads – they all have a few important things in common. They love us, care about us, and, despite everything we’ve thrown at them, are here for the long haul. How incredible is that?
While Mother’s Day can feel like a bit of a token gesture – often channelling the old, ‘God, did anyone remember to get mum a card?’ vibe – it’s actually so much more than this. It’s a reminder to look at the mums in our lives, to take the time to appreciate their magnificence, and to remember those gorgeous people who are no longer with us.
If you’re floating around Hawke’s Bay this Mother’s Day (Sunday 12 th May, for anyone asking) we’d love to see you and the ones you love for coffee, brunch or a delightfully tipsy lunch. If you’re planning on being elsewhere, why not treat your mum to a voucher? A little, ‘I can’t take you there today, but I really want to go with you soon’ gift. A promise of delicious food and dreamy drinks, under the attentive eye of St Martha herself.
And, if you really, really want to treat your mum (or your friends, your colleagues or yourself), take a look at our Mother’s Day giveaway: an ultimate dinner package for eight gloriously lucky guests, with a beautiful tablescape by Social Hire, wine pairings by Advintage, and food by yours truly. An unforgettable experience and the ultimate treat. To enter, simply head over to our Instagram @stmartha___.
If you’re lucky enough to have a mum, make sure you tell her how beautiful she is. How kind and selfless and funny and loved and seen she is. Not just once a year in early May, but all the time, every time you see her, all year round. Because she is beautiful. She’s all of the things. Although we may not know her, we know she’s off the charts. That’s just how it is with mums.
And if you’re a mum yourself, then we hope you get shown a little extra love this year. We see you out there, giving all the love you can give, and we know you deserve it.
Big ups to the mums – we can’t wait to see you soon.
